Premier Zille to Provide Progress Update on Drought Disaster Interventions

Tomorrow, 31 August 2017, Premier Helen Zille will provide a progress update on the provincial government’s interventions in municipalities, as part of the Drought Disaster declaration. She will be joined by Local Government MEC Anton Bredell, and expert officials.

The provincial government has been granted additional powers of intervention under the Disaster Management Act, 2002.

The Province is using these powers to coordinate water supply projects and the demand management response of municipalities.

Premier Zille will announce the work currently underway, which includes the drilling of boreholes, equipping of pump stations and laying of pipelines in High and Medium Risk municipalities.
