On Tuesday, 05 December 2023, Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Sharna Fernandez, – along with Premier Alan Winde – will form part of a human chain. During the 16 Days of Activism For No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign which is commemorated between 25 November and 10 December, we are calling on communities to stand with us in supporting survivors of violence and speaking out against violence and abuse.
As an issue that impacts all our communities, we as the Western Cape Government (WCG) believe in a whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach in addressing the scourge of gender-based violence (GBV).
Together with other provincial ministers, WCG staff and stakeholders, our human chain is meant to highlight the WCGs commitment to eradicating GBV 365 days a year, not just during these 16 days, and to stand in support with survivors.
We call on citizens to join us in forming a human chain in front of the Provincial Legislature in Wale Street.
For those who cannot come to Wale Street, we invite you to form a human chain at your workplaces and share pictures of it on social media using the hashtag #WCGENDGBV.
