To commemorate International Missing Children’s Day and as part of the Western Cape Department of Social Development ongoing Child Protection Month awareness initiatives, Minister Albert Fritz today conducted a door-to-door in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain.
Minister Fritz was joined by the department’s social workers from our Metro South Regional Office and Mitchells Plain Local Office, and our NGO partner Safeline.
Guided by the Children’s Act no. 30 of 2005, the department will continue to play a leading role in ensuring this province fosters an enabling and nurturing environment for children. In this regard we have allocated R605.549-million, the second largest portion of our 2015/16 budget, to the Children and Families Programme.
As we observe International Missing Children’s Day and Child Protection Month, we continue to urge the public to report any cases of child abandonment, neglect and missing children to any of our Regional Offices, or to contact our DSD Hotline on 0800 220 250. We can protect our children if we continue to work ‘Better Together’.
