Swartland, Overstrand and Mossel Bay K-9 and Rural Safety Units arrest suspects

Swartland, Overstrand and Mossel Bay K-9 and Rural Safety Units arrest 24 suspects in one week.

The Mossel Bay, Overstrand and Swartland K-9 Units, in partnership with the Rural Safety Units (RSUs) in the Overstrand and Swartland areas are continuing to work hard to help create safer communities. Between 5 and 11 February 2024, these units with various other municipal law enforcement agencies and the South African Police Service (SAPS), arrested twenty-four (24) individuals for various crimes. Of these, twenty (20) were apprehended in the Overstrand one (1) in the Swartland and three (3) in the Mossel Bay municipal area.

The Mossel Bay K-9 unit conducted various operations in the Grootbrak rivier, Kwanonqaba, JCC Camp and Da Gamaskop areas. This unit arrested two (2) individuals for the possession of drugs and one (1) other for negligent and reckless driving. Three (3) mandrax tablets and a knife were also confiscated. 

The Swartland units conducted operations in the Abbotsdale, Illingelethu, greater Malmesbury and Moorreesburg areas. One (1) person was arrested for dealing in drugs.    

The units also confiscated:

  • x57 whole and
  • x5 half mandrax tablets.

Amongst others the Overstand units’ arrests included:

  • x7 possession of drugs;
  • x2 possession of dangerous weapons; and
  • x4 wanted suspects. 

This unit confiscated:

  • x29 bankies tik; 
  • x101 whole mandrax and
  • x6 half mandrax tablets.

Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen said, “Our K9 and Rural Safety Units, must be commended for ensuring that the criminal activities of these 24 individuals came to an end. As the Western Cape Government, we will continue to invest in these units, as our aim is to make this province the safest in the country. It is our priority that residents, regardless of where they might find themselves live in a safer and dignified manner.”
