WCG and City extend condolences to family of LEAP Officer Williams

It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the murder of a 37-year-old LEAP officer who was fatally shot this past Sunday in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain. Read more below:

The Western Cape Government (WCG) and the City of Cape Town (CoCT) are shocked and saddened to learn of the attack on an officer attached to the Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP).

Toufeeq Williams (37) worked as a LEAP officer and was attached to the Hanover Park unit. He was off duty at the time of the incident and was walking in Hengelaar street, while carrying a baby. 

Provincial Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen said: “I extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family, loved ones, colleagues and all those affected by the death of Officer Williams. I intend visiting the family today. I am outraged at the murder of officer Williams. Every aspect of law enforcement, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and intelligence agencies must be used to ensure justice and to hold those allegedly responsible for this heinous crime. We must work to shut down their revenues of income, confiscate their assets and any resources which assist them in continuing their illegal activities. 

Minister Reagen Allen continued: I want to assure Officer Williams’ family that his death will not be in vain. We will not leave any stone unturned. Arrest and lengthy jail sentences must follow. The community of Mitchells Plain and all other areas plagued by these types of incidents should know that we will not rest until we combat murders and crime throughout the province."

City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, commented: 'The City mourns the loss of Officer Williams, a valued member of the Hanover Park LEAP team. Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer's loved ones during this difficult time.

The City offer a reward of R100 000 for any information that may lead to the arrest of the gangsters involved in this murder.

We call on anyone in the community who might have information about the attack to please step forward and assist the investigators so that the people responsible can be caught and brought to justice.
