Swartland and Overstrand K-9 and Rural Safety units arrest 15 individuals

The Overstrand and Swartland K-9 and Rural Safety Units arrested fifteen individuals for various crimes over the past weekend. Of these, eleven were apprehended in the Swartland municipal area and four in the Overstrand.

 

The Swartland arrests included:

 

  • x4 dealing in liquor,
  • x2 dealing in drugs,
  • x2 possession of drugs,
  • x2 possession of dangerous weapons and
  • one person for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

 

The units also confiscated:

 

  • x18 bankies of dagga,
  • 428 grams of loose dagga,
  • x1 crushed mandrax tablet,
  • x1 and-a-half whole mandrax,
  • R1 859 cash
  • x314 750ml bottles of beer and
  • x21 ciders and an assortment of wines.

 

The Overstand arrests included:

 

  • x1 for the possession of tik,
  • x1 for the possession of dagga and
  • x2 for dealing in drugs.

 

Along with recovering a stolen vehicle, these units also confiscated:

 

  • x521 mandrax,
  • x310 dagga bankies,
  • X3 tik bankies,
  • diving equipment and
  • R 1 650 cash.

 

Minister Reagen Allen said: “These successes are a clear demonstration of the Western Cape’s Government commitment to achieving greater safety across the province. We have and will continue investing in these units to ensure residents throughout the province can live in safer areas. My gratitude goes to all of our officers and our K-9 friends for the sterling work they are doing. I urge our officers to continue making the lives of criminals uncomfortable.”

 

“Each and every one of us have a responsibility to support all law enforcement units, including the South African Police Service (SAPS). It is only through cooperation and collaboration that we would be able to overcome crime and ultimately reduce the murder rate by 50% across the province by 2029,” concluded provincial Minister Reagen Allen.
