MEDIA ALERT: Minister Plato continues with Youth outreaches and interventions in Marikana, Lentegeur and Ocean View

This week, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will continue with Youth focussed safety outreaches and interventions in communities across the greater Cape Town area, including Marikana, Lentegeur and Ocean View.

Today, Wednesday 11 October 2017, Minister Plato and the Department of Community Safety will host an extensive Youth Safety Outreach in Marikana. The outreach follows requests from the community to assist in providing alternative opportunities for youth.

The aim of the outreach is to further help prevent youth being lured into negative social behaviours such as gangstereism, drugs and specifically alcohol, while presenting the various opportunities for development, further education and partnerships available through the Department of Community Safety.

Tomorrow, Thursday 12 October 2017, Minister Plato will be launching a new Walking Bus initiative in the Lentegeur West community. The Walking Bus initiative was launched in May 2016 and aims to help mobilise community volunteers around scholar safety, safeguarding learners on their walk to and from school every day, through the commitment and partnership between schools, neighbourhood watches, parents and law enforcers in aid of a proactive, safety-orientated community.

Minister Plato and the Department of Community Safety will replicate a similar Youth Safety Outreach to the one in Marikana today, in Ocean View on Friday, 13 October 2017.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
