Minister Plato hosts Tygerberg cluster PNP consultation workshop

6 November 2015

Tomorrow, Saturday 7 November 2015, Minister Plato, will host the second last Provincial Policing Needs and Priorities (PNP) consultation workshop for 2015/16.

The Tygerberg cluster, including the communities of Bellville, Bothasig, Brackenfell, Durbanville, Goodwood, Kraaifontein and Parow, will workshop a practical and implementable safety plan as part of the newly structured 2-day PNP consultation process. The draft safety plan is to be aligned to the specific safety needs and priorities within the communities represented.

The safety plan serves as a safety blueprint for communities which provide a shared ownership, responsibility and accountability to safety.

Background Information: Between May and November 2015, the Department of Community Safety will bring together various stakeholders in the safety and security environment for each of the 16 police clusters for two-day consultative workshop and will include representatives of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Municipalities, Community Police Forums (CPFs), Community Safety Forums (CSF), non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, faith based organisations, Neighbourhood Watches (NHW), and other local safety stakeholders.

The aim of the workshops is to use the information generated by the 2014/15 PNP process – the findings and recommendations – together with the various Integrated Development Plan (IDP) engagements as a starting point for discussions at policing cluster and precinct level in drafting the area specific plan.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
