Minister Mbombo welcomes 2020 medical interns intake at Tygerberg Hospital

Monday, 17 February 2020, Western Cape Minister of Health, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, will welcome the new intake of medical interns at Tygerberg Hospital along with the Head of Health, Dr Beth Engelbrecht.

Tygerberg Hospital welcomed 68 new medical interns for 2020. In addition to the new intakes, TBH has 78 second year interns which totals to 146 medical interns allocated to the hospital.

These junior doctors have qualified and are now doing their two-year internship at public health facilities across the province.

The purpose of internship is to provide training and well rounded, patient-centred, team based practical work experience to these junior doctors. Internship is the cement that brings the theoretical knowledge and the practical aspect of the medical profession together. This is supported and enabled by the more senior experienced clinicians.
