Media Alert: EMS Rescue Calls - 31 October 2011

30 October 2011

Saturday, 29 October 2011 - Past 09:00 on the Cyclist Path, Tokai Forest - A male cyclist in his late thirties sustained serious facial injuries after falling off his bike while riding along the cycle path in Tokai Forest. EMS and AMS paramedics and EMS Rescuers assisted in the rescue and medical transfer to Vincent Palotti Hospital via air ambulance (AMS Rescue Chopper). The patient was in a serious but stable condition.

Sunday, 30 October 2011 - At 19:40 on Table Mountain - A couple got lost on the mountain and required rescue assistance. EMS Rescue technicians coordinated the rescue with assistance from WSAR Volunteers. A team of 12 ground rescuers were sent out to assist the couple. At 21:00, the first team (of six members) took the cable car up Table Mountain and were able to make verbal contact with the couple (no visual contact as yet). The team was approximately 100 metres away from the couple (on India Venster hiking path), realising that they would not be able to locate the couple using a roping system, the second team was sent up via Kloof Corner hiking trail. The couple was reached at 02:27 and walked down by rescuers. Both the male and female did not require any medical attention. The rescue mission ended at 05:00 this morning. It is believed that the couple was from Johannesburg and on holiday in Cape Town.
