The For my Future (FMF) project is a Department of Health initiative in partnership with George Municipality, Eden District Municipality, Bethesda, Ithemba Lobomi, Isisombululo Foundation, the Department of Arts and Culture, the Department of Social Development and the Department Of Education. The aim is to provide services that will ensure healthy lifestyles and a better quality life for our youth and community. The project will be run from two sites i.e. Harry Comay Hospital and the Thembalethu Youth Centre.
More than 250 youth attended the launch of the FMF programme on 5 April 2017 held at Harry Comay Hospital. The excitement and energy was tangible on the day and can serve as an indicator of the youths commitment to this programme.
The crowd was entertained by four choirs(Thembalethu High School, Imizamo Yethu High School, Tyholora Primary School and Thembalethu Primary School) and nine performances including dance and drama. Performances were done by Pacaltsdorp Secondary, Parkdene’s Dance group , Thembalethu High and Primary School, Bethesda drama group Kgatsi, The Jukes and the The Three-O. The excitement however didn’t stop there. Lucky draws and great prizes were also up for grabs. Prizes were sponsored by Sh’zen and Cell C. Youth had to answer questions regarding the reason for having the launch day to be considered for a prize. There were also 50 goodie bags that were given out as lucky draws. Thank you to the sponsors: South Cape Beer Distribution and Plastics for Africa.
Attendees also had the opportunity to vote for the name and logo of the Youth Centre in Thembalethu which will officially open later this year. The Youth Centre will be called Incubeko which means “wisdom”. We would like to thank all the partners/organisations that contributed to the huge success of the launch. A big thank you also to the organisations who had information stalls on the day.
