Press Statement: Invitation for public comment on the decline in the number of active reservists

24 November 2017

Earlier this month, my office was requested by the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Community Safety to investigate the decline in the number of active reservists in the Western Cape. The investigation by the WCPO will focus on whether there is an adverse impact on service delivery by the SAPS in the Western Cape as a result of the decline in the appointment of reservists.

In terms of section 17 (3) of the Western Cape Community Safety Act of 2013 (Act 3 of 2013) I have published a notice in the Provincial Government Gazette ( PN212: 2017) on 24 November 2017 and hereby invite all people of the Western Cape to submit written representations to my office within 30 days from the date of publication.

These may be done as follows:

By Hand:                     6th floor, Waldorf Building, 80 Burg Street, Cape Town, 800

Post:                            Private Bag X9043, Cape Town, 8000

By Email:                     ombudsman@wcpo.gov.za

Fax:                             021 483 0660

For more enquiries please contact Mrs. A Lewis on 021 483 0669.

I welcome all comments and look forward to feedback from the residents of the Western Cape.
