Wynberg Central Business Improvement District Law Enforcement Officers Nab Suspected Drug Dealer

12 December 2010

Alert Law Enforcement Officers from the Wynberg Central Business Improvement District (CID) arrested a man that was known to be a suspected drug dealer in the area late on Friday afternoon.

The officers were conducting routine operations in the Wynberg vicinity at approximately 17:30 when they noticed the man in Lower Church Street. When he realised that the officers had spotted him, the suspect, a thirty-two (32) year old Tanzanian man, immediately tried to make his way to his motor vehicle.

The officers confronted the man and requested to search him and his vehicle. In the boot of the suspect's vehicle, the officers found packets of various drugs, including heroine, crack and rocks.

The man, together with his vehicle and the drugs, were taken to Wynberg Police Station, where he was charged with dealing in and being in possession of illegal substances. He is to appear in court today.

South African Police Services (SAPS) later estimated that the drugs found in the car had a street value of between one hundred and fifty thousand rand (R150 000) to two hundred thousand rand (R200 000).
