Statement on the removal of National DSD Minister

We welcome the decision by the President to remove Sisisi Tolashe from her position as Minister of Social Development, and note the interim appointment made. It shows no one is above the rule of law or above accountability, especially public servants who are entrusted to serve their office with integrity.

We look forward to the new permanent appointment and hope it is someone who will serve the portfolio and the vulnerable residents dependant on it, with transparency, honour, and the utmost respect it deserves.

The Government of National Unity has shown that progress is possible with some Ministers changing their departments for the better.  We are looking forward to having a national Social Development Minister willing to work in a constructive and collaborative manner with integrity and a clear focus on serving vulnerable people who depend on government's support. One of the first topics that will be raised is better service deliver by SASSA, that is a National entity, to the residents of the Western Cape.
