On Friday 29 January 2016 the International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) 2016 World Junior Table Tennis Championship was launched at the Grand West Casino during a press conference.

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), in partnership with the South African Table Tennis Board (SATTB), the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), and the International Table Tennis Federation is hosting this grand event from 30 November 2016 to 6 December 2016.

The Championships, which will be taking place in Cape Town, bring together the top 19 countries (out of its 222 member countries – based on continental quotas) and the host country (South Africa) for u/18 boys and girls.

DCAS Head of Department, Brent Walters, said that he was extremely pleased when the hosting of this event was awarded to South Africa, and to Cape Town in particular. “By bringing together these participants and supporters we believe that we are building a better province, country, continent and ultimately a more tolerant and cohesive world. This is the power of sport to help make the world a better place. We extend our open arms, our hospitality, our wonderful natural surroundings and the warm spirit of our people in the province to the ITTF and the countries and their representatives who will grace our shores in December 2016.” he said.

DCAS supports the promotion of social inclusion through sport to ensure a healthier Western Cape, BETTER TOGETHER.
