The Western Cape Government would like to extend their gratitude to all the competition entrants for their innovative Public Art Competition submissions made in celebration of 20 years of democracy and the World Design Capital title awarded to Cape Town. The competition, which was launched on 7 August 2014, received an astounding response, welcoming the need to advocate for more public art in Cape Town.
There was an overwhelming amount of entries The judging panel is pleased to announce that 16 finalists have been shortlisted for the next round of judging. Due to the amount of submissions made, it is anticipated that the winner will be announced on 21 November 2014. The judging panel felt that the quality of submissions was excellent, which is a great indication of the talent and potential for public art.
The public is invited to view the 16 shortlisted submissions on the official Western Cape Government World Design Capital web page. Comments may be emailed to westerncape.events@westerncape.gov.za by Thursday, 20 November 2014.
