Vanrhyns Pass roadworks notice

Notice of temporary lane closures due to construction works along Vanrhyns Pass Tr 16/02 (r27) between Km 34.65 and Km 40.16

Vanrhyns Pass (R27) between Vanrhynsdorp and Niewoudtville will be under construction from end – February 2024 to mid-June 2024.

Half-width construction will take place on the pass which will necessitate lane closures.

Accommodation of traffic will be in place for safe passage of traffic around the construction works. Motorists can expect to have to wait up to 45 minutes at the closure.

The project is located close to the border between the Western and Northern Cape near the town of Vanrhynsdorp (km 34.65 - km 40.16). The objective of this project is to rehabilitate the Vanrhyns Pass by means of an asphalt base and surfacing construction to address failures caused by floods.

The project was awarded to Roadmac Surfacing Cape (Pty) Ltd in January 2024. The expected completion date is mid–June 2024.

The Department apologises for any disruptions and inconvenience caused by the construction works, and thanks you for your understanding and cooperation. The long-term benefit of the project will be safe and comfortable road infrastructure in this area. During construction, the project will create short-term direct investment in local communities and the local economy.
