Two Western Cape Roads Closed After Heavy Rains

28 August 2013

The Franschoek Pass between Franschoek and Villiersdorp in the Western Cape was closed on the night of 28 August 2013 after a mudslide and a small rock fall.

Traffic from Franschoek to Villiersdorp is being diverted to the N2. The mudslide and rock fall came after heavy rains were experienced in the last 24 hours in the Western Cape.

The Franschoek Pass will remain closed until an assessment of the extent of the mudslide can be made.

Earlier that night, Chapman’s Peak Drive was closed after a mudslide covered a large portion of the road.

Both Chapman’s Peak and the Franschoek Pass will remain closed until further notice.
