Thirty Seven Drivers Caught Driving Drunk

Provincial Traffic stopped three thousand, five hundred and twenty-nine (3529) vehicles in weekend operations, and screened one thousand, one hundred and sixty-five (1165) drivers for alcohol abuse. Thirty-seven (37) drivers were found to be over the legal limit, and were arrested for allegedly being drunk while driving.

The driver with the highest alcohol content, a thirty-five (35) year old male from Uganda was stopped in Worcester and had a reading of one point fifty-two milligrams (1,52mg) on the drager screener.

The other arrests that were made during these integrated operations were one taxi driver for operating without a permit and one (1) pedestrian for being drunk on the road.

Traffic officers issued four hundred and five (405) fines for different traffic law contraventions.

Provincial Traffic officers attended to three (3) accidents over the weekend where fatalities were recorded. In Knysna, on the N2, one person died in a crash, and two pedestrians were knocked down and killed, one on the R300 and one the N1, near Engen One Stop.
