Stormwater installation in Montagu
The Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) is making good progress on a 36-month contract to rehabilitate and upgrade various sections of the R60 and R62 between Ashton and Montagu through Cogmanskloof.
The Department is expected to complete work on this R583-million contract in the third quarter of 2018.
The construction team will continue to install the new stormwater pipeline in Du Toit Street (between Long Street and the low water bridge). The first phase of the installation is complete, and the team will undertake Phase 2 during the Easter school holidays.
During Phase 2 of the installation, the portion of Du Toit Street between Long Street and the Spar overflow parking area will not be accessible to the public. Phase 2 commenced on 31 March 2017 and is expected to be completed by 19 April 2017.

It is important to note that absolutely no pedestrians or vehicles will be allowed in the construction zone. The school grounds can be accessed from the entrance on Long Street. From the Spar overflow parking area, a detour via Van Riebeeck Street will allow vehicles to return to Long Street.
The Department is aware that delays are frustrating, but some delays during construction are inevitable. The high-quality road infrastructure that DTPW provides is an important component of a safe and effective transport system, and an enabler of economic and social development in the Western Cape.
