Stop/ Go and height restriction on the Cape Town/ Velddrif road (R27)

22 January 2019
R27 R27

A 24/7 stop/ go signal and a temporary height restriction of 5,1 m is expected to be put in place on the Cape Town/ Velddrif road (R27) just before the Saldanha intersection from Wednesday 23 January 2019 until the end of March 2019. This is to reduce the speed through the “tunnel” section where a new bridge over the R27 is being built. Waiting times are expected to be no longer than 10 minutes.

The temporary support work will be protected with temporary concrete barriers.

It is a provision of the contract that traffic must be accommodated with the least delay and discomfort to the public. No full road closures are allowed. The safety and convenience of the travelling public are of utmost importance and every effort will be made to ensure that all temporary road signs, cones, flag operators and speed controls are maintained and are effective, and that courtesy is extended to the public at all times. The contractor is required to make use of approved methods to control the movement of equipment and vehicles so as not to constitute a hazard on public roads. The public is requested to be patient and exercise caution at stop/ go points.

Members of the travelling public are urged to keep to the speed limits for their own safety and the safety of construction workers. Speed law enforcement measures will be put in place from time to time.
