Repairs at Knysna High School Hostel

27 June 2019

The Department of Transport and Public Works has started refurbishing the Knysna High School boarding hostel which was damaged by fire in June 2017. This R15 million project is expected to reach completion in February 2020, if everything goes according to plan. The school’s boarders are being accommodated in a temporary facility on the school premises while the project is under way.

Project leader, Fatima Salie says the entire hostel will be refurbished. “Work will include replacing the first floor brickwork, screeds and plaster; removing the timber flooring and putting a new surface bed in its place; and installing new finishes and fixtures throughout the facility. This project is also creating a number of short-term job and skills development opportunities.”

Once completed, the school will boast upgraded hostel accommodation; bathrooms; eating and recreational facilities; and kitchen and staff quarters.
