Ministers Plato and Grant to do Drug Inspection Walkabout on Cape Town Station and Parade

28 October 2012

On Monday, 29 October 2012, Dan Plato, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, together with Donald Grant, Western Cape Minister of Education, SAPS officials, Metro Police, and the City Improvement District (CID), will go on a walkabout of the Cape Town station deck and Grand Parade area in response to reports of a high prevalence of drug use there.

Reportedly, school children are staying out of school to buy drugs, it has been
alleged that police officers are being paid to turn a blind eye, and that this happens in broad daylight. These are serious matters that require urgent attention.

The Ministers and accompanying delegation will speak to the informal traders and commuters about the situation to gather information which can then be presented to the relevant authorities to take action.
