Minister Plato takes Community Safety outreach to Sir Lowry’s Pass and Worcester

24 April 2015

Over the next couple of days, 25 – 28 April 2015, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, together with officials from the Department of Community Safety, will continue with Safety Outreach engagements specifically aimed at the youth.

On Saturday, 25 April 2015, and Tuesday, 28 April 2015, will conduct Departmental outreach engagements in Sir Lowry’s Pass and Worcester respectively while he will be supporting the Youth Transformation Africa (YTA) Prayer event being held at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town on Freedom Day, Monday 27 April.

As from their attached press release, “the YTA prayer event is calling young people from all churches and denominations to come together in unity to pray for their city and their nation. The day will include prayer, music and celebration. Popular musicians like MiCasa and Neville D will lead the celebrations. Speakers will include Angus Buchan and Pete Greig.”

The Departmental outreach engagements form part of a larger series of outreach events across the province to provide more information and the relevant requirements to communities, non-governmental organisations operating in the community as well as the religious fraternity operating in the area on how to successfully partner with the Department of Community Safety towards a safer community – Better Together.

The various engagements will include sessions on the:

  • Northlink Bursary partnership;
  • Chrysalis Academy;
  • Youth Safety and Religious Partnership;
  • Neighbourhood Watch; and the
  • Community Policing Forums.

Minister Plato Said: “The outreach has a particular youth focus as we cannot allow a generation of youth to miss out on existing opportunities, both from the public and private sector, which will empower them to improve their own lives and the lives of their families”.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
