Minister Plato joins SAPS in Bredasdorp Community Outreach

13 April 2016

Today, 13 April 2016, Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will join the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Bredasdorp for various safety interventions and awareness activities.

The outreach engagements will follow a proactive social crime prevention approach to address the threats of drugs, substance abuse, serious violent crimes and crimes against women and children in attempts to help mobilise all community structures to work together with the police and government to help create safer environments.

In the past year Minster Plato and the Department of Community Safety has repeatedly engaged with the broader Bredasdorp community on various occasions relating to different safety concerns and needs. These visits includes the safety of women and children during Women’s Month, a focussed youth safety and opportunity outreach as well as the determination process of the Policing Needs and Priorities for the Bredasdorp policing cluster.

At the Police Imbizo in Bredasdorp the people of Bredasdorp acknowledged that the Police cannot be expected to create safer environments alone and the SAPS agreed; the community challenged themselves to ask what needs to be done continuously to improve safety.

Minister Plato and representatives of the Department of Community Safety is going back to Bredasdorp today to assist the SAPS and to reconfirm the Western Cape Government’s commitment to work with any organisation and community in creating safer environments where people live, work and move about.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
