Minister Meyer Opens KykNET Buite Ekspo in Malmesbury

3 March 2014

The annual kykNET Buite Ekspo was a lively outdoor event which opened on a farm near Malmesbury on 28 February 2014. Producers of local goods had an opportunity to exhibit their wares alongside stalls offering everything from camping equipment, 4x4 vehicles and accessories to motorcycles, canoes, boats, hunting and fishing equipment.

There were also stalls advertising destinations, sports goods and outdoor publications. It was a weekend for families as many families camped on the farm and participated in the many adventure activities on offer.

Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Dr Ivan Meyer said thousands of people from across the country attend the event. “This expo promotes the local outdoor market, contributes to tourism in the Western Cape and promotes cultural warmth and social inclusion,” he said.

Expo goers enjoyed watching live rugby and cricket on the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) mobile screen truck. DCAS sport promoters engaged children in aerobics and various fitness activities to promote a healthy lifestyle. During the Buite Braaikoning Competition, punters were able to meet with actors from the local kykNET soap opera Binnelanders. Another highlight was safari 4x4 obstacle daytrips and the opportunity to meet Dakar rally legend Giniel de Villiers.
