On Saturday 20 February 2016 the Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, attended the launch of the Western Cape Southern Stings Netball team in Paarl. The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport has pledged their full support to the team as they will be participating in the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League. The tournament will commence on 8 April and will be held in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Durban.
The team is comprised of players from across the province, including Phumza Maweni, Rochelle Lawson, Jo Prins, Anandie Burger, Abeline Olivier, Megan Grossman, Remina Stephan, Cindy Pretorius, Charmaine Baard, Mari-Lena Joubert, Nichole Taljaard, Carla Werth, Erin Burger, Sasha-Lee Petersen, Juline Rossouw, Stephanie Brandt, Leani Kleinhans-Cornelissen and Adele Niemand.
In her keynote address Minister Marais expressed that she fully supports the Western Cape Southern Stings Netball team and wished them all the best for their upcoming tournament. She said, “I have no doubt that the Southern Strings will do the Western Cape proud.”
