Minister Madikizela to officially open new pedestrian bridge

15 February 2021

Western Cape Transport and Public Works Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela, will tomorrow, Tuesday 16 February 2021, officially open the newly constructed pedestrian bridge on the N2 at Garden Village in Somerset West.

The R22 million project commenced in May 2019 and was completed at the end of January 2021. The project was motivated by the need for safe passage for pedestrians to cross Trunk Road 2 from the urban area on the western side to the commercial areas and schools on the eastern side.

With the schools opening today, learners from Gordon High School and Danie Ackermann Primary School will in future cross the road using the new bridge at all  times. This will minimise the risk of pedestrians being injured and killed on the busy N2 as well as making this stretch of the road safer for motorists.

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.

Details are as follows:

Date:   Tuesday, 16 February 2021
Time:   10am
