Metro Police Arrest Sixty Drunk Drivers over the Weekend

Metro Police officers arrested thirty eight (38) motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during roadblocks on Sunday 05 September. A total of twenty nine (29) motorists were arrested in Khayelitsha, and nine (9) in Muizenberg.

"This follows another twenty two (22) arrests for drunk driving on Friday and Saturday. Sunday's operation brings the total number of arrests for drunk driving this weekend to sixty (60)," said Metro Police Deputy Chief, Yolanda Faro.

Officers arrested another ten (10) suspects later on Sunday during joint operations with the South African Police Services in Bloekombos, Kraaifontein.

They searched seven (7) suspected drug dens and confiscated the following items:

  • seventeen (17) Mandrax tablets
  • one (1) sachet of Mandrax powder
  • one (1) bank bag of dagga
  • one (1) large parcel of dagga
  • four (4) dagga stoppe
  • four (4) TIK lollies
  • one (1) gas burner
  • two (2) scales

"We will continue to clamp down on drunk drivers on our roads, in the interests of protecting law-abiding road users. In addition, we will persist in our campaign against drug-dealers and focus on suspected drug dens," said Deputy Chief Faro.
