Media Alert: Prize-giving for City's 'Hand-Washing Campaign' Poster Competition

10 August 2010

The City of Cape Town's Health Directorate will today host the prize-giving for its 'Hand-Washing Campaign' poster competition.

The 'Hand-Washing Campaign', launched in October 2009, seeks to spread the message that good hand-washing habits remain one of the best ways to prevent the spread of disease.

The poster competition is a spin-off of this campaign. Entrants were grouped into two categories: Grades R to 3, and 4 to 7. To enter, they had to create an A3 poster emphasising the health benefits of hand-washing, thus learning through a creative medium.

The poster competition proved very popular, and some 500 entries were eligible for adjudication. A first, second and third prize will be awarded for the best posters in each category, and the schools of the winning learners will also receive a small prize.

Mayoral Committee Member for Health, Councillor Dumisani Ximbi, and Chairperson of the City's Health Portfolio Committee, Councillor James Vos will assist with the prize-giving.

Date: Wednesday 11 August 2010

Time: 14:30

Venue: Kristo Pienaar Education Centre, Tygerberg Nature Reserve, Totius Road, Welgemoed, Tygerberg

All media are welcome to attend.
