EMS officials continue to serve communities with zeal

During the past week (14 – 21 March 2022), dedicated EMS officials responded to 12 851 incidents across the Western Cape. A total of 7 901 incidents (out of the weekly total) were responded to during the past weekend, including Human Rights Day. The top ten incident types for the past weekend consisted of non-cardiac pain (1 406); weapon assault (723); respiratory complaints (695); physical assault (532); obstetric complaints (481); abdominal complaints (433); neurological complaints (420); vomiting/diarrhea (332); and forensic pathology (230). 
 

EMS’ Vaxi Taxi operations

EMS officials kick started the weekend by serving the Mitchells Plain community at the bi-annual Mitchells Plain Festival which took place at Westridge Gardens.  On Friday, 18 March - Sunday, 20 March, 11 February 2022, 90 individuals were able to receive their COVID-19 vaccines at the festival. A total of 16 Vaxi Taxi team members assisted during the weekend. They followed a duty schedule which allowed them to rotate from Friday to Sunday. With the intention to reach as many communities as possible within the province, the EMS team have built and strengthened relationships with key public servants who are continually supporting and contributing to the ongoing vaccination efforts. To date, EMS’ Vaxi Taxi team have enabled 9 726 individuals within the province to receive their vaccines, hassle-free. 
 

The new week in full swing

The new week is once again off to a busy start as EMS officials have responded to road traffic incidents. One of the incidents, a head on collision, occurred at 06:25 on Tuesday, 22 March on the R46, between Tulbagh and Wolseley. The motor vehicle crash involved a taxi and a motor car, as well as 11 patients, and 5 patients were trapped. 6 female patients were seriously injured and 2 females, and 2 males sustained light injuries. Unfortunately, 1 female patient, who was trapped in the motor vehicle sustained fatal injuries. The patients who survived, were transported to Ceres Hospital. We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
