EMS Alert: Motor Vehicle Accident in Tulbagh

The Western Cape Government Health's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a heavy motor vehicle accident in Tulbagh on 10 September 2012.

At 11:30 on the R46 between Tulbagh and Ceres - In a head-on collision between a heavy-duty van and truck, one adult male was declared dead on arrival and two adult males were identified as seriously injured.

The driver of the truck suffered a head injury while the passenger suffered a possible arm fracture. They were transported to Ceres Hospital by EMS ambulance.

The driver of the heavy-duty van had to be extricated using a specialised rescue crane and the Jaws of Life. He was later pronounced dead on the scene.

The rescue mission took three hours to complete.
