DCAS contributes to a winning and active nation

On 26 June 2018, the Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, handed over a ceremonial cheque to various municipal representatives in the Western Cape to contribute towards local sport facilities.

DCAS Chief Director for Sport and Recreation, Dr Lyndon Bouah, welcomed representatives from various municipalities across the province. He stressed the value of building a winning and active nation and explained that the facilities element is seen as one of the 14 key enablers for a conducive environment for sport in the country to develop talent and perform at higher levels. He also mentioned that experts from the Western Cape Government, municipalities and sport federations in the province will engage about the effect of the drought on sport and facilities in the Western Cape.

Minister Marais presented a total of R1 601 000 to the municipalities of Drakenstein, Cape Agulhas, Laingsburg, George, Saldanha Bay, Theewaterskloof and Witzenberg. “I urge you to take ownership of these gems to the communities, maintain and respect them as they are invaluable assets to the enrichment of the livelihoods of all who will use them for constructive development of not only the physical being but for the social inclusion of all”, she said.
