CT Marathon: The Better Together Platform for Big Stage Running

20 September 2012

Western Province Athletics, in partnership with the City of Cape Town, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and other entities, will bring thousands of runners together to take part in the Cape Town Marathon on Sunday, 23 September 2012. There is also a 10 km route.

Runners and spectators will be able to take in the rich natural and cultural heritage of Cape Town during a race that was established to provide a flat, scenic course through the city.

The marathon starts at 06:30 near the Adderley Street entrance of Cape Town Station and passes many significant sites before finishing on the Green Point Common. The 10 km race starts at the same time and place, using the last part of the marathon route as its course.

The event offers elite athletes the chance to post a fast marathon time and the eight-hour cut-off will allow first-timers and walkers a fair chance to complete the distance before the close.

The marathon is a qualifier for the 2013 Comrades Marathon and the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon. The Department encourages the public to line the pavements to support the runners and enjoy the lively Better Together atmosphere.
