Cape Town Mayor to Tour Khayelitsha on Horse-Drawn Cart

2 August 2010

The Executive Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman Dan Plato, and Charlotte Maxeke Sub-Council Chairperson, Councillor Stuart Pringle, will participate in a cultural township tour of Khayelitsha on a horse-drawn cart.

They were invited by Khayelitsha-based M & L Khwela Ride Tours, who run cart tours for tourists.

Date: Thursday 05 August 2010

Time: 14:30

Venue: Lookout Hill Tourism Facility, corner of Spine and Mew Way Roads, Khayelitsha

All media are invited to attend. This is an excellent photo opportunity.

Tours like this one are in line with the City's Tourism Development Framework, which aims to develop and maintain tourist attractions, facilities and infrastructure in a sustainable way, while building the capacity of local business that can benefit from the opportunities offered through the tourism industry.

A growing number of tourists are looking for a 'different' travel experience and a higher quality product. They want to get closer to the people of the destination they visit and experience the area's natural and cultural heritage. This type of tour provides just that.
