Outdoor Education Centres

Children need to be happy and healthy to thrive and achieve at school. Outdoor activities offer an opportunity for a balanced educational experience for your child. Unfortunately, children tend to spend more time sitting indoors engrossed in modern technology.

Allowing a child to experience the outdoors through camping or at an outdoor education centre will expose them to activities that they wouldn’t have in the cities or the suburbs. The skills they learn at outdoor education centres are valuable problem-solving skills that they will use in a real-world setting later in life.

Outdoor education centres will teach your child to appreciate nature and will contribute to a well-balanced and stimulating lifestyle.

• Jeugtrust, and
• SOS Outdoor Centre 

Jeugtrust

The Western Cape Jeugtrust is a registered school supported by the Western Cape Education Department. The outdoor centre comprises of 4 different campsites (Jonkershoek, Melkbosstrand, Bainskloof, and Bergkroon) where learners are taught about the indigenous plants and animals of the region. One, two or three day outdoor educational programs are available for groups.

SOS Outdoor Centre 

SOS Outdoor Centre is situated 7km outside Villiersdorp and only an hour’s drive from Cape Town. During the week, SOS offer School in the Wilds, a fully catered educational camp for Grade 3-7 learners from all over the country. The programme gives pupils the chance to experience and learn about nature first-hand.

On weekends and during the school holidays, SOS campsites can also be booked for school, church or sport camps. This can be done on a self-catered or fully catered basis. A minimum of 35 people is required to book a campsite.
