Young readers set for world stage in Kids’ Lit Quiz

19 March 2026

Wynberg Girls’ Junior School clinched first place at the South Africa National Finals of the Kids’ Lit Quiz on Saturday, 14 March 2026, hosted at Grove School in Cape Town.

Competing against top young readers from across the country, the team excelled in this global literary quiz for learners aged 10–13, which tests knowledge of children’s literature across ten changing categories each year.

The competition features heats and finals in countries including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand and the USA. At the national event, Manor Gardens School from Durban placed second, followed by St John’s Prep from Johannesburg.

As national champions, Wynberg Girls’ Junior School will represent South Africa at the World Finals in New Zealand this July. Their achievement reflects dedication, teamwork and a strong passion for reading, and their upcoming international experience promises to be both exciting and enriching.

Western Cape Minister of Education, David Maynier, congratulated the team: “This is a fantastic achievement and opportunity for our learners to shine on the international stage. We wish them the very best for the competition in New Zealand later this year, as champions for strengthening literacy across grades in the Western Cape!”
