WCED lights up October to celebrate teachers
6 October 2025
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is celebrating National Teacher Appreciation Month with powerful tributes projected onto iconic buildings like the Zeitz MOCAA, the Planetarium and Khayelitsha Hospital.
The campaign kicked off on World Teachers’ Day, reminding us that teachers are the driving force behind every success story in the Western Cape. They shape minds and inspire dreams.
In his World Teachers’ Day address, Western Cape Education Minister David Maynier shared a moving message:
“I hope our teachers realise the enormous impact they have on their learners long after they have left school. They develop the next generation of doctors, engineers, artists, scientists, and teachers, along with an endless list of other vocations that keep our economy on the trajectory of positive growth.”
And the appreciation doesn’t stop at words. Minister Maynier announced a massive investment of over R500 million into teacher training over the next three years, ensuring every hour spent learning delivers real value for teachers and their learners.
He concluded with a heartfelt thank you to the teachers of the Western Cape:
“We know that the going is tough in the schooling environment, and that our society places a great burden on you to build the future of our children.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the support, care and love that you show every day to the children of the Western Cape.”
This October, let’s all take a moment to thank a teacher because behind every achievement, there’s a teacher who made it possible.
