Second Chance Matric Support Programme: Free Tutoring Classes

It is the responsibility of the candidate to register individually to write the NSC October/November 2026 examination.

Registering and attending the Second Chance Matric Programme tutoring classes does not mean that the candidate is automatically registered for the examination.

Registration to attend the second chance tutoring classes will take place from 09h00 to 14h00 on Saturday, 22 August 2026 at the SCMP centres listed below.

Information about Examination Registration for the October/November 2026 Examinations

Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) | Information

  1. The Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) is offered by the Department of Basic Education to assist National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) part-time candidates to prepare for the May/June and October/November examinations. It is important to note that SC Part Time candidates can only write the May/June exams and cannot register to write the October/November examination.
     
  2. The Western Cape Education Department established Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) Centres in the Western Cape in 2026.
     
  3. The centres will provide support to part-time candidates who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) and are registered to write in the NSC October/November 2026 examination.
     
  4. Documents to take along for the registration of the second chance tutoring classes on Saturday 22 August 2026:
     
    • A copy of your ID document.
    • A copy of your Confirmation Slip that you are registered for the NSC October/November 2026 examination.
       
  5. The programme will provide free tutoring to:
     
    • Candidates who wrote the NSC exam in previous exam sitting from 2008 to 2026 and wish to rewrite any of their subjects in order to improve their overall results, as well as NSC candidates offering new subjects for which they will complete the School-Based Assessments (SBA) in 2026.
       
  6. The tutoring will cover the following subjects:
     

    Accounting | Business Studies | Economics | English First Additional Language | Geography | History | Life Sciences | Mathematics | Mathematical Literacy | Physical Sciences 
     

  7. Master teachers will provide face-to-face tutoring at selected venues.
     
  8. In the face-to-face classes, Mind the Gap study material will be used in eight of the subjects in addition to past question papers and study guides.
     
  9. There is NO COST involved. All tuition is offered free of charge.
