Manzomthombo Secondary crowned national netball champions

Perseverance paid off for Manzomthombo Secondary School in Mfuleni when their u15 team won the Ubuntu section of the Kay Motsepe Schools Netball Championship in North West at the weekend.

A total of 36 talented teams from across the country gave their all for a chance to clinch the championship title and to represent South Africa in the International Youth Netball Challenge in Singapore in November.

Manzomthombo’s proud coach, Frank Xaba, said over the past seven years the school managed to place second and third in the competition, but they never lost sight of their goal to win gold. He thanked the sponsors, Sanlam and the Motsepe Foundation, for making the competition possible, as well as the Western Cape Education Department and the school community for supporting the team over the years.

The other participating schools from the Western Cape were ID Mkhize High School in seventh position in the Ubuntu section and Stellenberg High School and Parel Vallei in fifth and 10th place in the Botho section.
