The Positive Behaviour Intervention and Resource Centre (PBIRC) in Wynberg is expanding its reach with a fully-fledged library available for teachers.
The intervention and resource centre has teamed up with EDULIS, the Education Library and Information Service of the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) to give teachers access to a wealth of literature on positive behaviour and inclusive education.
Through EDULIS, teachers and education officials have free access to both print and electronic resources.
Neville Goliath, Provincial Manager of the Positive Behaviour Programme, said Edulis@PBIRC will be especially convenient for teachers in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs who might not have the time or resources to visit EDULIS’ facilities in Kuils River. “We aim to make our library and resource centre the go-to platform for educators seeking the latest research and best practices in positive behaviour and inclusive education.”
What makes this initiative truly exceptional is that EDULIS@PBIRC is the first of its kind in South Africa. Timothy Cloete, Head of EDULIS, explained that the library can be regarded as a faculty library with subject-specific resources, tailored to support educators visiting the centre.
A Positive Behaviour Support Desk will also provide expert guidance and support whenever teachers need it.
Ignatius Du Preez, Director: Inclusive and Specialised Education Support, emphasised the centre’s commitment to supporting teachers. “This is a place where teachers do not need to feel at a loss. They can come here and get help. We have resources and friendly people here that can help and support them.”
