Grade 7 learner completes Cape Impact Tour

At just 12 years old, Lienke Uys, a Grade 7 learner at Laerskool Hugo Rust in Wellington, has demonstrated that young people can make a meaningful impact in their communities.

Passionate about service, youth development and community awareness, she recently completed a five-day Cape Impact Tour under the theme: 5 Days. 5 Missions. One Young Voice for Impact.

Lienke serves on her school's service committee. She is also a Community Service Award recipient, hosts a weekly youth radio segment called Lekker Lewe met Liefste Lienke, and has earned provincial recognition in Western Mounted Games. Through her various platforms, she encourages young people to embrace kindness, resilience and leadership.

The tour included a CapeTalk interview, work with The Mission to Seafarers, awareness campaigns for the Tiana-Leigh Lung Foundation, participation in the Break the Cycle fundraiser, and a feeding campaign at Elnor Primary School, before concluding at the Red Cross Children’s Hospital Trust.

Reflecting on the experience, Lienke said the tour reinforced her belief that making a positive impact does not require money, status or influence. Instead, she believes it begins with simple acts of kindness, volunteering and a willingness to help others.

“I want to create real impact, lead and inspire,” said Lienke. “Most importantly, I want to remind other young people that they are never too young to serve, inspire and be the difference.”
