Bernadino Heights High School Dance Team successfully defends National and African Championship titles

The Bernadino Heights High School Dance Team has once again cemented its place among the country’s elite by successfully defending both its National and African Championship titles in spectacular fashion during the 2026 competition season.

Building on their dominance in 2024 and 2025, the team delivered exceptional performances at the SAMCA National Championship, held in Centurion, Gauteng, from 2 to 5 July 2026. Competing against the best teams from across South Africa, the Bernadino Heights team retained their titles and were crowned National Champions in three Performance Cheer categories:  Hip Hop Team, Pom Team and Hip Hop Doubles.

Their national success earned them the honour of representing South Africa at the ICU Africa Cup, where they competed against top teams from across the African continent. Continuing their winning streak, the Bernadino Heights dancers were crowned African Champions in all three categories.

Their consistent excellence is testament to the countless hours of training, discipline, resilience and unwavering commitment displayed by every member of the team. A key contributor to the team’s achievements is their coach, Carly Van Wyk , an educator at Bernadino Heights High School. Her expertise, commitment and passion for developing young talent have played a significant role in establishing the school as a powerhouse in Performance Cheer. The support of the management team has also been instrumental in helping the learners reach their full potential.

Beyond the medals and trophies, the team’s success reflects the values of teamwork, resilience and excellence that define the school community. Their achievements continue to inspire fellow learners and bring pride to the school, the local community and South Africa as a whole.
