Bellville Primary School is beaming with pride over the outstanding achievements of its head girl, Aqeelah Williams, who has made waves at the recent African Zone Open Water Championships in Eswatini.
Aqeelah claimed gold in her age group in the 3km race and recorded the fourth-fastest overall time across all age categories—a remarkable feat for a 13-year-old swimmer.
As a rising talent at the University of the Western Cape Aquatics Club, Aqeelah has been making rapid strides in the national swimming ranks. She is currently second in South Africa for the 3km open water swim and holds top national positions in the 200m Butterfly and 400m Individual Medley. Her impressive performance at the championships included a pivotal role in the 4x500m relay, where she helped her team secure third place with a stunning comeback.
"Aqeelah radiates excellence, and her array of achievements fills us with pride," said Principal Doreen Urry. "Outstanding academically, she's a capable head girl demonstrating strong leadership, and an enthusiastic sports participant showcasing her adaptability. Her commitment is palpable, inspiring both fellow students and educators. Aqeelah epitomises our school's motto: Where children become winners – she's a shining testament to the values we cherish."
Aqeelah's ultimate goal is to represent South Africa at the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane and her recent achievements suggest she's well on track to achieve her dream.
