Deserie Rossouw retired in 2018 after a 42-year teaching career. She is currently standing in for a teacher on maternity leave. Visitors to Bellville South Primary School were in awe of the Grade 4 museum exhibition in her classroom. The museum display is a formal assessment task for learners.  The learners are required to gather information from their local area and make a museum display of everyday objects.

Rossouw jokingly said after not being in the classroom last year, she might have gone a bit overboard with the artefacts this year.

Her drive in life is to be of service to the community of Bellville South. She started teaching at the Bellville South Moravian Primary School in 1977 and when the church school closed its doors twelve years ago, she continued serving the same community at Bellville South Primary School.

“I enjoy chatting to former learners because it is my motto that all my learners must be somebody.”

As a teacher, Rossouw challenges learners to be inquisitive, dream big and work hard in order to achieve their goals. She is also involved in outreach work in the community.
