Litasa’s Western Cape branch invited children aged 10 to 12 to share their stories about what it has been like to be in lockdown. There was also a category for parents to reflect on their experience of being home with their children during this time.

Shiloh impressed the judges with his explanation of the COVID-19 pandemic and a description of how he spent his time while under lockdown.

Shiloh’s proud teacher, Kim Thompson, said the Grade 5 learners had a similar topic for their second term oral assessment and she encouraged the learners to enter the competition. “This is an awesome achievement for Shiloh and the school. I am super proud of him and glad I could have encouraged him to participate in the competition!”

The other Western Cape winners were Syed Istiaq Ahmed who submitted a video entitled ‘My Lockdown Moments’; Haleemah Ahmed of Rylands Primary wrote a poem called ‘Life in lockdown’; and Olivia van der Vliet penned a wrote a short story called ‘Existing’.

The winners received a cash prize of R350.
