Admissions FAQ: Application Process - next steps
I did not get a place at ANY school
Parents must now confirm their final choice of school for 2026.
This means other places will open once parents have confirmed and declined places, schools will fill these places. You may write a letter/email to enquire from, ask for clarity or motivate for the application to be reconsidered to the SGB of the school.
It is advisable to stay in touch with the school and request that the learner be placed on a waiting list as some places will still open as parents confirm.
In the third term, the WCED will assist parents who have not yet secured a placement by helping them find available places at appropriate schools.
I did not get a place at the school of my choice. (A learner has at least 1 successful option, but the first choice of the parent is unsuccessful)
You may to write a letter/email to enquire from, ask for clarity or motivate for the application to be reconsidered to the SGB of the school.
Kindly note that the school makes the final decision whether the application is successful or not. The WCED is not involved in this decision-making process. The online application is subject to the school exercising and applying their own admission policy.
Unfortunately, the WCED cannot assist with schools of choice. It is therefore recommended that you contact the school(s) and request more information on why your application was not accepted and request to be considered if any vacancies become available.
I did not get a place at ANY school or school of choice
Parents must now confirm their final choice of school for 2026. Once parents have confirmed and declined, places will open at schools. Many learners have been accepted to more than one school – meaning that places will become available.
Parents have until 17 June to confirm their final choice. After that, schools will contact parents that were not accepted to offer places. We understand that this is stressful, but the WCED will assist you with an option if you did not get a place at any school. However please note that this will only happen in the third term after schools have filled the available places.
I didn’t get a place for Grade R - LEARNER IS YOUNGER THAN 6 YEARS OLD….
Preference is given to learners who turn 6 in Gr R because compulsory schooling starts from the age of 6.
It is advisable to stay in touch with the school and request that the learner be placed on a waiting list. However please note that due to demand for places, schools can only consider younger learners once learners of compulsory school going age have all been placed.
It is also advisable that you look at other suitable options such as ECD centres as all schools do not offer Gr R.

I have a successful place. What is the process going forward from here?
Parents must now confirm acceptance of the placements at schools between 30 May and 17 June 2025. In the case that the learner is accepted at more than one school and you, have not indicated your final decision and confirmed by 17 June 2025, the first school where the application was successful, as ranked by you, will be activated automatically on 17 June 2025. All other successful applications will then be removed to resolve learners blocking places at schools.
After 17 June 2025, parents/guardians you will only have three days to accept a place if you are offered one at a school.
What do I do if I have not yet applied? The system is now closed?
You may go the nearest District office where they will assist you with your application. If you are unable to get to a district office, you may go to your nearest school and complete the WCED late application form.
The school will submit the form to the district office who will capture the form on the system.
