Cape Catalyst
What we do
Cape Catalyst looks for connections and multiplier benefits of a project, making tweaks that have major impact. We engage in de-risking, project preparedness phasing, feasibility studies, and seed funding to crowd in additional funding from DFIs, government and private sector for economic catalytic soft and hard infrastructure.
We develop and champion strategic soft and hard infrastructure programmes and projects that fuel economic vitality. Our work goes beyond harnessing the existing potential of economic assets — we advocate for and design solutions that unlock opportunities, drive innovations, and strengthen connections.
In the Western Cape, we are reimagining these programmes and projects to meet the challenges of (climate change, rapid urbanisation and logistics, and the evolving demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution). Through forward-looking planning and catalytic projects, we help build a resilient, inclusive, and future‑ready economy.
What is Catalytic Economic Infrastructure?
Economic catalytic infrastructure refers to large‑scale, strategically located public or public private investments that are designed not only to deliver a direct service, but to unlock, stimulate, and accelerate wider economic activity well beyond the infrastructure itself. Such infrastructure typically:
- Lowers barriers to entry for firms and investors
- Crowds in private investment and complementary services
- Enables sector development and clustering
- Generates employment, skills development, and fiscal returns
- Produces multiplier effects across the local, regional, and national economy
Its value lies less in once off construction impacts and more in its long‑term catalytic role in shaping economic structure, competitiveness, and spatial development.
