Section 24G applications refers to the provisions of the National Environmental Managment Act, 1998 (NEMA), specifically the unlawfully commenced activities which refers to activities that have commenced without prior environmental authorisation as referred to under section 24 of the NEMA. 

The Sub-Directorate: Rectification is responsible for the administration of application for the rectification of these unlawfully commenced activities.

Services provided 

  • Process applications in terms of Section 24G of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (NEMA) submitted to the Department.
  • Providing environmental advice and comments on queries relating to Section 24G of NEMA

Environmental Assessment Practitioners (EAPs) can now use the dedicated web application available, to support the submission and management of Section 24G applications under the National Environmental Management Act, 1998. This digital platform streamlines the process, allowing users to submit applications, monitor progress, and engage with the Department more efficiently.

Just a note: Existing applications will continue to be processed during this transitional period.

The Sub-Directorate: Rectification oversees the review of all submissions and provides guidance on related queries, ensuring a responsive and accessible service that supports regulatory compliance.
