Impact Assessments

Event Impact Assessments

We as the Western Cape Government recognise the significant contribution events make to society and the economy of the Western Cape. Positive economic, social and environmental impacts along with good governance practices are at the core of measuring event growth.

The Impact Assessment Framework is a user-friendly tool for any event organiser to measure their event’s impact, sustainability and the growth potential. The Framework includes economic, social, environmental and governance indicators coupled with questions to answer and a guideline of where the information can be found in order to complete the assessment. Event organisers can use the Framework for reporting purposes or compile their own impact assessments.

Economic, Social, Environment and Governance.

Economic Evaluation

The economic impact and growth potential of an event is evaluated by determining the event cost and income, jobs created as a result of the event, and number of event participants and attendees. We also look at the event budget and the event income to determine the economic sustainability of the event.

Social Impact

Events are inherently social activities and so can have positive spin-offs in communities where events are held. To measure social impact we look at the level at which local communities have access to your event and if your event supported any charities.

Environmental Impact

As an important part of our provincial and national economy, it is important that events are hosted in an environmentally sustainable way. To measure environmental impact we asses an event against best practice greening standards and how event wait is treated.

Governance

For an event to be successful in the long-run there has to exist a sound management structure, in this case the cormorant governance of the event organising company. For successful governance at an event there needs to be; an event management plan, site plan, communication pan, transport plan, safety and security plan, risk and disaster amendment pan, health plan, and environmental protection plan.
